Public Demonstrations are good for the Society

Brand here. Knight, Pelican, Bard.
Been doing Demos for the Society since 1981.
Demos are a great way for the Society to Show Off, Recruit, and support a worthy cause.

I run a non-profit and we are mastering a Renaissance Faire in Skagit Valley (Mt Vernon WA) on June 13-14, 2026. You, and your Households, are invited to come do what you love, at a Fairgrounds, have (I hope) huge crowds to watch and HUZZAH! your work, and enjoy the joys of a lovely time at the Faire. AND create an even more positive relationship between the An Tir and the town of Mt Vernon, WA. As we are having more and more events up there (Aquaterran events, especially) that is a good idea.

This Ren Faire has many goals.

 1) Share the love of historical re-creation.
 2) Support the local community
 3) Allow various groups and individuals to “show off and be seen”.
 4) Pay for the expense of putting the Faire on (about $50K) with a significant amount of any excess going to fund held by our Non-Profit for a permanent site (a 5 year plan).

It’s the best way I can come up with to eventually afford to buy land for a year-round period Village and Property. (Yes, the ‘eternal dream’ we all buy lottery tickets for.)
But that’s in the future.

For this year of 2026, we are hiring entertainers, bringing in Food Trucks and Merchants, and hope we can have a 100+ person SCA presence doing A&S Demonstrations, recruiting (100% AOK :-) having a Society merchant section, and lots, and lots, of fighting. We have an entire building for the Society and an entire separate camping area from the rest of the campers. Hot Showers. Flush (and porta) Biffies. We will have some basic grub for all workers, a low fee (to cover those showers and biffies) of only $10.00 per person. The Fairgrounds also has a small rodeo arena (sandy ground) with bleachers, so war practice could happen as well as indoor sparing, tourneys, etc. Space, too, for Rapier, and even Archery. Lots of Demo space for all our interests.

And, for fun, there will be the rest of the Ren Faire to wander around and enjoy, and that $10.00 gate fee for Society Folks also, of course, includes the ability to enjoy the Faire. (For all others, $25.00 day of ticket price). All for $10.00 each.

Being me, I can go into HUGE more details, and write a sonnet about it while I am at it. But for the purposes of this conversation, I will close it off here.
